Why Humanity for Paws?
Most rescues in Serbia focus on finding animals a home, at Humanity for Paws, we make sure that home is truly ready. Our work goes beyond adoption, with preparation before and support after, so people know how to care, commit, and show up long-term. At the same time, we push for sterilization, accountability, and a system that prevents animals from being put at risk in the first place. It’s this balance of care, structure, and responsibility that makes Humanity for Paws different and why our adoptions are built to last.

Right Animal, Right Family
We know from experience how the right animal can make our lives better. By focusing on pairing the right animal with the right family, we can improve the lives of the owners and the animal they bring into their family.

Sterilization
We believe that the only way to truly address the issue of stray animals in Serbia is to sterilize the animals and manage the population.

Vaccination
Vaccination improves the health of animals and the community as a whole by reducing or eliminating disease transmission.

Integrity
If it is worth doing, it is worth doing right. Humanity for Paws’ mission is to end animal suffering and abandonment in Serbia, and the only way to achieve this mission is to provide the best services with the highest level of integrity.
● Our Story
The Founding of Humanity for Paws
Through her love and passion for animals, Maja has been rescuing and fostering stray dogs in Serbia since 2020. The idea of starting a nonprofit to address the issue nationwide kept coming up, but the opportunity didn’t align.
After six years of managing an after-school education nonprofit in Colorado, USA, Adam decided to leave to explore the world and find a new place to make a positive impact.
That is when the founders, Maja and Adam, met in December of 2025. They quickly realized they both loved animals, wanted to make the world a better place, and had the combined skills to make it happen.
